Bernie Sanders Gets Blasted by Liberal Actor Michael Rapaport

Liberal actor and comedian Michael Rapaport has sharply criticized Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) for his recent comments opposing U.S. arms sales to Israel amid the ongoing conflict with Hamas.

Rapaport, known for his outspoken and often bombastic style, directed his ire at Sanders, accusing the Jewish senator of betraying his own heritage by opposing support for Israel.

The controversy erupted on Thursday after Sanders posted a statement on social media accusing Israel of “ethnic cleansing” in the wake of the October 7, 2023, Hamas terror attack.

The attack, which resulted in hundreds of Israeli civilians being taken hostage, saw brutal killings, including the deaths of children and the sexual assault of women.

Sanders expressed his opposition to U.S. arms sales to Israel, calling Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu’s actions “illegal” and describing the situation as a war crime.

He further stated that he would force a vote to block $8.8 billion in new arms sales to Israel.

“Netanyahu’s illegal war has killed 50,000 Palestinians. Now, Trump wants to force out 2 million more to build a billionaire’s playground in Gaza,” Sanders wrote on X. “That is ethnic cleansing — and it’s a war crime. Next week, I will force votes to block $8.8 billion in new arms sales to Israel.”

Rapaport responded the following day with a direct rebuttal.

On social media, he challenged Sanders’ stance, pointing out that Israel is under significant threat on multiple fronts.

“While we are under threat on 7 fronts, why would a lifelong politician be calling for a stop to arms to ISRAEL?” Rapaport wrote.

“Sen. Sanders, your parents and grandparents would be disgusted with you. You’re a self-hating embarrassment.”

Rapaport, who is Jewish, didn’t stop at Sanders.

He also took aim at fellow Jewish Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY), accusing both men of betraying their heritage.

“You and @SenSchumer need to take colonics together and cleanse your rotten souls. Shame on both of you. Old life long bull shit artists,” Rapaport added.

Less than an hour later, Rapaport escalated his criticism, invoking the Holocaust and the deaths of Sanders’ extended family members in Nazi concentration camps.

“What kind of sick animal who’s own family was wiped out during the Holocaust, call for the stop of arms to Israel, while 59 hostages are being held since the worst attack on Jews since the Holocaust?” Rapaport wrote.

“You’re sick @SenSanders. When you think about his own family’s destruction, it’s really twisted.”

The connection to the Holocaust is significant for both Rapaport and Sanders. According to a 2015 report by Tablet magazine, many of Sanders’ extended family members were killed in Nazi concentration camps during the Holocaust.

Sanders’ father, Eli, emigrated from Slopnice, Poland, to the United States in the early 1920s. However, most of his family in Poland perished during the Nazi occupation, with many sent to concentration camps where they were killed.

Rapaport, whose own family also hails from Poland, has been a vocal critic of President Donald Trump, but his views have evolved since the violent attacks on Israel in October 2023.

He admitted he was wrong about Trump and praised the actions of the president’s administration, signaling a shift in his political perspective, particularly regarding issues of national security and support for Israel.

The exchange between Rapaport and Sanders has added fuel to an ongoing debate over U.S. foreign policy and the level of support that Israel should receive from the American government.

While Sanders’ remarks continue to spark controversy among some factions of the Democratic Party, Rapaport’s comments highlight the division within the Jewish community regarding the ongoing conflict and the U.S. role in supporting Israel’s defense against Hamas.
