Bangladesh Court Seizes Tulip Siddiq’s Properties and Imposes Travel Ban

Yesterday the Bangladesh Anti-Corruption Commission’s request for a travel ban on outed dictator Sheikh Hasina and her family was granted by a court in Dhaka:

“Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Zakir Hossain Ghalib issued the order on Tuesday following an application by ACC Deputy Director Monirul Islam.”

A seizure order for 124 bank accounts connected to Hasina has also been issued. Bangladeshi media reports that properties owned by Labour’s ex-City Minister Tulip Siddiq are also in the process of seizure, including “an apartment in the Eastern Harmony Building in Gulshan.” Siddiq denies all allegations against her. A five-strong team at the ACC is investigating one of several allegations of embezzlement by Hasina and her family members including Siddiq and the travel ban has been imposed to prevent the individuals leaving Bangladesh if they find themselves there. Not to worry – Tulip was in Speaker’s House last night in order to be named one of the “100 most influential women in Westminster”…

The awards list, organised by The House Magazine, says the “former key member of Labour’s shadow treasury team” worked for “almost three years to convince the business and financial sectors that her party could be trusted with the nation’s finances.Write your own jokes…
