Bangladesh Court Issues Arrest Warrant for Tulip Siddiq
Per reports in Bangladeshi media Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Zakir Hossain Galib has today issued an arrest warrant for 53 people including ex-anti-corruption minister and Labour MP Tulip Siddiq. This follows the submission of charge sheets by the Bangladesh Anti-Corruption Commission and the concerned individuals’ absence in court. The court will review reports on the execution of the arrest warrants on 27 April…
As the Mail on Sunday points out Siddiq is now an “absconding suspect wanted in a foreign criminal investigation.” An arrest warrant also opens the door to an extradition request…
Siddiq denies wrongdoing. Her latest statement was issued on Saturday night through her lawyers:
“The ACC has made various allegations against Ms Siddiq through the media. The allegations are completely false and have been dealt with in writing by Ms Siddiq’s lawyers. The ACC has not responded to Ms Siddiq or put any allegations to her directly or through her lawyers. Ms Siddiq knows nothing about a hearing in Dhaka relating to her, and there is no basis at all for any charges against her or an arrest warrant.”
Hotting up…
