At approximately midnight, Secret Service personnel located a parked car near 17th and F Streets, NW, that matched the description given in the police alert.

A person resembling the reported individual was also spotted nearby.

“As officers approached, the individual brandished a firearm and an armed confrontation ensued, during which shots were fired by our personnel,” the Secret Service said in a statement.

The suspect was transported to a local hospital, and his condition remains unknown. No Secret Service officers were injured in the incident.

The Metropolitan Police Department will take the lead in investigating the shooting, as it serves as the primary agency responsible for handling use-of-force incidents within the District of Columbia, the Secret Service said.

President Donald Trump was not at the White House at the time.

According to his schedule, he is set to leave his Mar-a-Lago estate at 5 p.m. today and return to Washington, D.C.
