Those concerned that tariffs are going to affect their next iPhone upgrade may be in for a pleasant surprise.
According to a The Times of India report, Apple flew in five planes full of iPhones and other products from India to the United States. While their sources claim that the company has “no plans to increase retail prices in India or other markets,” it is believed that the shipments were made in an attempt to circumvent President Donald Trump’s tariffs and temporarily avoid raising prices.
“Factories in India and China and other key locations had been shipping products to the US in anticipation of the higher tariffs,” one source told the outlet.
“The reserves that arrived at lower duty will temporarily insulate the company from the higher prices that it will need to pay for new shipments under the revised tax rates,” they explained.
The shipments that have already arrived will keep Apple stocked for several months but the source noted that if the tariffs are not removed, prices will need to be raised not just in the United States but “across key global regions, including India.”
It is likely that Apple will significantly increase its operations in India in an attempt to avoid the increased reciprocal tariffs in China as the two countries continue to implement retaliatory tariffs on each other.

X users had a lot to say about the strategic move:
Apple’s five iPhone airlifts from India beat Trump’s tariff deadline—quick thinking! But the Trump admin’s America First mission is deeper: bring manufacturing home. No price hikes yet, but U.S. workers need those jobs. Let’s stand with Trump’s economic fight!

No one will buy a $2,300 iPhone. It’ll be an Android market from now on if they don’t get over here quick

Junk is overpriced before the tariffs.
