AOC Gets Smoked Online for Debuting Kamala-Style Accent in Idaho [WATCH]

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is facing fresh scrutiny from conservative voices after a clip from her recent rally in Nampa, Idaho, circulated online.

As Fox News reported, the New York Democrat appeared to alter her accent during the event, prompting accusations of pandering from critics who compared the moment to similar incidents involving Vice President Kamala Harris during the 2024 campaign cycle.

The rally, held Monday alongside Sen. Bernie Sanders, was part of their ongoing “Fighting Oligarchy” tour, a series of events taking aim at major figures such as Elon Musk and President Donald Trump.

Organizers reported a crowd of over 12,000 in attendance at the Idaho stop.

Conservative commentators quickly zeroed in on a clip where Ocasio-Cortez’s speech appeared noticeably different in tone and cadence.

“Oh look, AOC is doing the interchangeable accents to fit the demographic she’s in front of,” wrote popular X user Gunther Eagleman. “Did she take notes from Kamala?”

Benny Johnson, another conservative media figure, posted, “Kamala Harris just introduced yet another new accent. Sike, this is AOC. Seems to be using Kamala’s playbook. I guess she didn’t pay attention during the 2024 election.”

The account for conservative outlet Townhall.com shared the clip with the caption, “AOC is pretending to have some sort of strange accent. This is exactly what Kamala Harris did on the campaign trail. Why do they do this?”

Breaking 911 also weighed in, writing, “WATCH: AOC debuts new accent ahead of reported Presidential run. It’s worse than Kamala’s or Hillary.”

Fox News Digital confirmed they had reached out to Ocasio-Cortez’s office for comment but had not received a response as of publication time.

The criticisms echo those lobbed at Harris during her presidential campaign appearances last year, where she was also accused of shifting her accent depending on her audience.

Ocasio-Cortez has yet to announce a 2028 presidential run but has remained highly visible alongside Sanders, a longtime progressive ally.

Sen. Bernie Sanders speaks to the crowd duirng his “Fighting Oligarchy” speaking event Saturday, Feb. 22, 2025 at The Englert Theatre in Iowa City, Iowa.

During a Los Angeles rally earlier this month, Sanders told a crowd of approximately 36,000:

“Your presence here today is making Donald Trump and Elon Musk very nervous.”

The duo’s “Fighting Oligarchy” tour has already included stops in Las Vegas, Tempe and Tucson, Arizona, and Denver and Greeley, Colorado. Additional rallies are planned in the coming weeks.

As the campaign continues, the attention on Ocasio-Cortez’s speaking style suggests the congresswoman will face increasing scrutiny from both political opponents and media observers alike.
