‘And say thank you …’ Sec of State Rubio let loose on Poland’s minister for trashing Musk, Starlink

Secretary of State Marco Rubio let loose on Poland’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Radosław Sikorski after he slammed Elon Musk on X.

Since 2022, Musk and SpaceX have provided Starlink service to Ukraine, allowing the country to have satellite internet access as they continue their efforts to fight off Russian invaders. This was the crux of a tense discussion between the two that started when Musk called for sanctions to be levied against the “top 10 Ukrainian oligarchs.”

“Place sanctions on the top 10 Ukrainian oligarchs, especially the ones with mansions in Monaco, and this will stop immediately,” Musk said. “That is the key to the puzzle.”

One user responded in agreement that corrupt leaders should be held responsible but then snapped at Musk for not being hard enough on Putin.

“I agree, anyone engaging in corruption should be sanctioned. But also, you got to stop pretending that Putin isn’t the aggressor. Ukraine is the victim. Knock it off with the nonsense. You seem focused on only criticizing Ukraine but not Putin for some reason,” the person wrote, prompting Musk to respond.

“I literally challenged Putin to one on one physical combat over Ukraine and my Starlink system is the backbone of the Ukrainian army. Their entire front line would collapse if I turned it off,” the billionaire explained. “What I am sickened by is years of slaughter in a stalemate that Ukraine will inevitably lose. Anyone who really cares, really thinks and really understands wants the meat grinder to stop. PEACE NOW!!”

At this point, Sikorski weighed in on the discussion, threatening to look for alternate suppliers.

“Starlinks for Ukraine are paid for by the Polish Digitization Ministry at the cost of about $50 million per year. The ethics of threatening the victim of aggression apart, if SpaceX proves to be an unreliable provider we will be forced to look for other suppliers,” he wrote.

Musk hit back at the foreign affairs minister with a snarky message.

“Be quiet, small man. You pay a tiny fraction of the cost. And there is no substitute for Starlink.”

At this point Rubio stepped in, reminding Sikorski to say “thank you.”

“Just making things up. No one has made any threats about cutting Ukraine off from Starlink. And say thank you because without Starlink Ukraine would have lost this war long ago and Russians would be on the border with Poland right now,” the secretary of state wrote.

“Thank you, Marco, for confirming that the brave soldiers of Ukraine can count on the vital internet service provided jointly by [the United States] and [Poland],” Sikorski replied. “Together, Europe and the United States can help [Ukraine] to achieve a just peace.”
