Fallout after Coachella band went into vulgar rant against Trump and Israel

An Israeli non-profit has invited an antisemitic Irish hip-hop group to “come hear the truth about” the Oct. 7th terror attack.

The Tribe of Nova, a nonprofit launched to honor the lives of those killed at the Nova music festival, issued the invite after the Irish hip-hop group Kneecap displayed an antisemitic message at Coachella last week.

While performing in Coachella’s “Sonora” tent on Friday, the group displayed the words “F–k Israel” and “Free Palestine.”

The group doubled down after their performance.

“Kneecap followed up its Coachella set on social media with numerous video posts about their ‘uncensored messaging’ and a request for young Americans to send the clips to President Trump, whom they called a derogatory term that starts with a c,” The Hollywood Reporter notes.

The Tribe of Nova, to its credit, responded to the group’s antisemitism not by shouting or throwing a fit but by inviting the group to learn more.

“We invite the members of Kneecap to visit the Nova Exhibition and experience firsthand the stories of those who were murdered, those who survived, and those who are still being held hostage,” the nonprofit wrote in an Instagram post published Sunday. “Not to shame or silence—but to connect. To witness. To understand.”

The Nova Exhibition is an exhibit that documents the horrors that unfolded at the Nova music festival on Oct. 7th, 2024.

However, some pushback has emerged from those who are fully aware of just how radical Kneecap’s members happen to be.

“KneeCap are Irish terrorist sympathizers,” one critic tweeted. “They celebrate the IRA. The IRA murdered 100s of innocent women and children. They blew up the car of a cleaner with his child inside because he cleaned our local police station.”

“KneeCap are just vile terrorists supporters, they will never have the honesty and the courage to go in Israel at Nova site and see what happened there,” another critic predicted.

Meanwhile, Jewish critics in particular have also been blasting Goldenvoice, the AEG subsidiary and concert promoter that booked the band for Coachella, for not having done its due diligence beforehand.

But according to insiders who spoke with The Hollywood Reporter, Goldenvoice CEO Paul Tollett was completely “blindsided” by Kneecap’s performance, despite the group’s history.

Scooter Braun, a top record executive and talent manager, added in a social media post that Tollett is anything but an antisemite.

“He is someone who lives and breathes the festival community,” Braun wrote in an Instagram post Sunday. “He fights for artists and he fights for all people. When I invited him to the opening of the Nova music exhibit in Los Angeles, he was the first person from the industry to accept.”

“He came on his own time and spent five hours in the exhibit and then met with survivors of nova and invited them to the festival this year as his guest. He cried with them, he laughed with them, and he continues to advocate for them. Let’s not lose sight of who this man is, and let us stand with him in this moment when a group, without his knowing, took advantage of his festival and created hate in a place that’s filled with love,” Braun added.

Friday’s performance was reportedly the second time in a row that Kneecap drew negative attention at Coachella.

During the band’s original Coachella performance a week earlier, the band reportedly displayed “pro-Palestine” messages and yelled out an anti-Margaret Thatcher chant.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, at least one nonprofit, the Creative Community for Peace, tried to warn Goldenvoice and AEG about Kneecap prior to its second performance last Friday.

“The group urged the organizers to cancel, noting the group’s previous support for groups like Hamas and Hezbollah,” the Reporter notes. “CCFP’s executive director, Ari Ingel, called on venues and promoters to boycott the band, and called for the group’s visas to be revoked as well.”
