‘It’s So Ridiculous’: Bill Maher And Charlie Kirk Torch Dems Over Wildly Unpopular Stance On Trans Athletes

Comedian Bill Maher and Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk agreed during a Sunday podcast that Democrats will continue to lose elections if they refuse to oppose biological men competing in women’s sports.

Only two House Democrats voted in support of the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act in January — which would bar biological males from competing in female sports — as it passed 218-206. Kirk, on Maher’s “Club Random,” praised Maher for “being a liberal that acknowledges male-female distinctions,” leading the pair to argue Democrats’ stance on the sports issue will hurt them politically. “Of all the low-lying fruit that the Democrats just like hand the Republicans to win elections, that’s the one,” Maher said, referencing the party’s stance on gender.

“It’s so funny — I joked around with my team the other day,” Kirk responded. “I said, ‘Are they really going to just let us win every national election on this no men in female sports thing?’ Like, they can’t surrender on this one issue.”

About 80% of Americans feel that biological males shouldn’t be permitted to participate in women’s sports, according to a January New York Times/Ipsos poll.

“It’s so ridiculous,” Maher laughed.

Kirk asserted 90% of Americans do not want biological males in female sports and that biological males have won “890 medals and trophies” in female competitions, appearing to reference a United Nations report published in August for the latter statistic.

“You lost [Democratic California Gov.] Gavin Newsom on this,” Maher said. “Okay, take that as a hint, right?”

Maher was referencing a March episode of Newsom’s podcast “This Is Gavin Newsom,” also featuring Kirk, in which Newsom told Kirk that males competing in female sports is not fair after Kirk asked him if he would oppose their participation.

“Well, I think it’s an issue of fairness, I completely agree with you on that. It is an issue of fairness, it’s deeply unfair,” Newsom told Kirk. “I am not wrestling with the fairness issue. I totally agree with you.”

However, Newsom has repeatedly backed policies that allow men in women’s prisons and enable schools to secretly transition children without their parents’ awareness or consent.

President Donald Trump signed a February executive order to ban male participation in female sports. Democratic Gov. Janet Mills subsequently vowed during a public White House visit to bring the Trump administration to court over its enforcement of the order.

Senate Democrats blocked the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act in March, with 45 voting to defeat a cloture vote on the bill.
