President Donald Trump met with El Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele in the Oval Office on Monday, where the two leaders highlighted strengthened U.S.-El Salvador relations, record-low border crossings, and ongoing cooperation on immigration enforcement.

During the joint appearance, the leaders also took questions from members of the press—an exchange that quickly turned contentious when CNN anchor Kaitlan Collins pressed them on the deportation of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, an alleged MS-13 gang member.
Collins focused her questions on whether the United States or El Salvador planned to return Garcia to the U.S., referring to him as a “Maryland dad.”
The Supreme Court ruled last night that a gangbanger, who Democrats described only as a “Maryland dad,” has to come back after @realDonaldTrump deported him to El Salvador’s mega prison. However, Garcia, a native of El Salvador, was previously determined by both immigration and appellate courts to be a member of the violent gang MS-13 and was deported under existing immigration laws.
President Trump, joined by President Bukele, Attorney General Pam Bondi, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Homeland Security Advisor Stephen Miller, responded to the question.
JUST IN: President Trump has multiple members of his admin take turns ripping CNN’s Kaitlan Collins after she asked why an alleged MS-13 member was deported to El Salvador.

All officials reiterated that Garcia will not be returned to the United States and that the deportation followed due legal process.
Bukele noted that under Trump’s leadership, border crossings had dropped significantly in a matter of months. “You’ve lowered border crossings by 95%,” Bukele said, before being corrected by Trump.
“Actually, as of today, it’s 99.1%,” Trump responded. “Why doesn’t your media report this?” Bukele asked.
Trump then turned to CNN, stating, “Well, they get out, but the fake news, you know, like CNN—CNN over here doesn’t want to put them out because they don’t like putting out good numbers… Because I think they hate our country, actually. But it’s a shame. You’re right. Isn’t that a great question? Why doesn’t the media, why don’t they put out numbers?”
The exchange became more pointed when Collins attempted another follow-up question, prompting the president to respond: “Why can’t you just say it’s wonderful that you’re keeping criminals out of our country? That’s why no one watches you anymore.”

Following the meeting, CNN anchor Dana Bash addressed Trump’s comments during a broadcast.
“Before I get to you, I just wanna say, for the record, since we’ve heard President Trump say in the Oval Office that CNN hates our country—CNN does not hate our country. That should go without saying. I’ve been here for 32 years,” Bash stated.
Dana Bash responds to Trump’s Oval Office comments with a serious on-air statement:
“For the record… CNN does not hate our country.”Have we ever seen a “news” network feel the need to clarify it doesn’t hate America? That alone says everything.

The interaction was part of a broader conversation on border security and foreign cooperation.
U.S. officials have maintained that Garcia, whose deportation was previously challenged in court, was removed in accordance with immigration law after being identified as a member of a designated foreign terrorist organization.
The U.S. Supreme Court recently ruled 9–0 that courts cannot compel the executive branch to conduct foreign relations in a particular manner, affirming that neither the President nor the Secretary of State can be forced to retrieve a deported foreign national.
El Salvador has declined to release Garcia, and U.S. officials stated he would be subject to re-arrest and deportation again if that changed.
Attorney General Pam Bondi addressed the issue directly, stating, “He was illegally in our country. In 2019, both an immigration court and an appellate immigration court ruled that he was a member of MS-13. That’s up to El Salvador if they want to return him. That’s not up to us.”
Homeland Security Advisor Stephen Miller added, “This isn’t hard. Garcia isn’t coming back. The law is clear.”
I am SO GLAD the Trump administration decided to completely UNLEASH Stephen Miller on the media.
He regularly displays a masterclass in debunking their lies.

The Trump administration continues to emphasize that its immigration policies focus on national security, gang suppression, and cooperation with foreign partners like El Salvador.
Monday’s meeting with President Bukele served as a reaffirmation of that strategy and highlighted measurable outcomes, including the steep drop in illegal border crossings.
