Famous Fast-Food Chain Trolls Katy Perry Hard Over Her Brief Space Trip

Fast-food chain Wendy’s took a jab at pop singer Katy Perry following her short trip to space aboard a Blue Origin flight that marked the company’s first all-female mission.

Perry joined CBS News anchor Gayle King and Lauren Sánchez, fiancée of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, for the NS-13 mission, which launched Monday morning from Blue Origin’s West Texas facility.

The group also included astronaut and bioastronautics research scientist Amanda Nguyen, NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, and filmmaker Kerianne Flynn.

The six-member crew became the first all-female team to travel to space since 1963, when Soviet cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova made a solo mission. Monday’s launch occurred at 9:30 a.m. and lasted approximately 11 minutes.

While the mission was hailed as historic by some, Perry and her fellow crew members faced criticism on social media and from several public figures following their brief journey.

Among the responses, Wendy’s official X account gained attention for mocking the pop star’s involvement in the spaceflight.

After a post announced Perry’s return from space, Wendy’s replied, “Can we send her back,” referencing her participation in the short suborbital mission.

The account also reposted photos of Perry kissing the ground after landing, captioning the image, “I kissed the ground and I liked it,” a play on the singer’s 2008 hit “I Kissed a Girl.”

When another user mentioned the mission lasted just 10 minutes, Wendy’s responded with, “Don’t short change her it was 11 minutes.”

The sarcastic commentary continued as the account wrote, “I’m a woman send me to space,” and added, “When we said women in stem this isn’t what we meant.”

The remarks were part of a broader online backlash following the NS-13 mission.

In addition to public reactions, several celebrities also expressed disapproval, including Amy Schumer, Olivia Wilde, Emily Ratajkowski, and Olivia Munn, though their comments were not quoted directly.

The six women wore personalized space suits during the flight. Perry’s suit featured a firework graphic next to her name—a reference to her 2010 song “Firework”—as well as a daisy in honor of her daughter, Daisy, with actor Orlando Bloom.

Sánchez’s suit included a fly emblem, a nod to her children’s book The Fly Who Flew to Space. King’s suit featured a microphone in recognition of her journalism career.

The Blue Origin flight was part of the company’s New Shepard program and was one of several suborbital flights aimed at promoting private space tourism.

Despite the mission’s brief duration, Blue Origin described it as a milestone, while critics pointed to the promotional nature of the event and questioned its scientific value.

The backlash from both the public and high-profile figures sparked further discussion online about the purpose and presentation of space tourism, especially when involving celebrity participants.
