Iconic comedian and actor Bill Murray doesn’t suffer fools gladly, as seen in an incident that reportedly took place inside a New York City movie theater.
In footage making the rounds online, a fan seems to be hounding the 74-year-old celebrity and got a little too close. Murray lashed out after the fan makes contact with him as walks through AMC Lincoln Square 13.
“You attack me like that again, I’ll step on your foot,” an energetic Murray warns the man. “Don’t do it again.”
We know several people who have worked with Bill Murray and have known him for decades.
If you are nice and polite, and it’s under the right circumstances, he is the funniest, kindest, sweetest person.
If you are stalking or annoying him, you’re screwed. pic.twitter.com/6feNriUHG6

Murray was being escorted by a security guard when the me man apparently stepped on his foot — he was reportedly at the theater for a special Q&A presentation of his film “The Friend,” which also stars Naomi Watts.
The security guard did not respond to the fan after allegedly making contact with Murray.
Interestingly, the online reaction to the incident suggested that Murray has a history of being nice to “polite” fans, while some questioned whether the “fan” in this case could have been paparazzi.
Here’s a quick sampling of responses to the story, as seen on X:
When he was on sets, if people were polite he would sign autographs and do selfies with them. He would also speak to extras in the scene so they would have to answer, and get paid more!

I was in New York about a decade ago, standing in line for coffee when I spotted him.
Didn’t make a scene. Didn’t ask for a pic.
Just thanked him for all the years of laughs. He stopped, shook my hand, and thanked me for being polite.
Totally threw me off.
Then he bought my…— Rent Free (@SectionEight) April 4, 2025

It’s just a dumb thing to do. Be cool and others will be cool. Be a dumbass and get treated like one.

Celebs are people too. Treat them with respect and don’t bother them too much. If they want to stick around, then hey, that’s great for you. Paparazzi objectify them and I don’t blame celebs for getting mad or doing goofy things. Bill handled this situation well, imo.

It looks like they were following him so closely they stood on the back of his shoe. I can’t imagine how intrusive and awful it is to be stalked by photographers and fans everywhere.
