EPIC battle between Obama vs Trump!? If third term strategy works, these two could be ON!

Rumors that President Donald Trump may repeal the 22nd Amendment have some speculating about an epic 2028 electoral battle between him and former President Barack Obama.

The rumors began to emerge this past weekend after the president told NBC News that he won’t rule out trying to run for a third term in the White House.

“A lot of people want me to do it,” he said of a potential 2028 run. “But, I mean, I basically tell them we have a long way to go, you know, it’s very early in the administration. I’m focused on the current.”

When asked whether he personally is seeking out another term, he replied, “I like working.”

“I’m not joking,” he added after being asked for clarification. “But I’m not — it is far too early to think about it.”

More importantly, when asked how he’d run again given that the 22nd Amendment prohibits it, he said, “There are methods which you could do it.”

Yes, and that method would be repealing the 22nd Amendment — a strategy which, incidentally, would also allow Obama to run again:

Speaking later with reporters from The Hill, Trump was asked again about the prospect of a third term.

“I’m not looking at that, but I’ll tell you, I have had more people ask me to have a third term, which in a way is a fourth term because the other election — the 2020 election — was totally rigged, so it’s actually sort of a fourth term,” he said.

But when confronted with the fact that the 22nd Amendment bars presidential candidates from holding office more than twice, the president demurred.

“I don’t even want to talk about it,” he said. “I’m just telling you I have had more people saying, ‘Please run again.’ We have a long way to go before we even think about that, but I’ve had a lot of people.”

Trump doubled down when a reporter then asked whether it’s “an appropriate precedent to set, even if it’s not you in that position.”

“I don’t even want to talk about a third term now because no matter how you look at it, you’ve got a long time to go,” he replied. “We have a long time. We have almost four years to go, and that’s a long time, but despite that, so many people are saying you’ve got to run again. They love the job we’re doing. Most importantly, they love the job we’re doing.”

All this comes a couple of months after Republican Rep. Andy Ogles proposed a new amendment that’d allow Trump (or any other politician, for that matter) to run for a third term in the White House.

“No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than three times, nor be elected to any additional term after being elected to two consecutive terms, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice,” the amendment reads.

“President Trump’s decisive leadership stands in stark contrast to the chaos, suffering, and economic decline Americans have endured over the past four years,” Ogles said in a statement back in January.

“He has proven himself to be the only figure in modern history capable of reversing our nation’s decay and restoring America to greatness, and he must be given the time necessary to accomplish that goal,” he added.
