Comedian Danny Mullen found himself at the center of a viral confrontation at a recent anti-Tesla protest in Palo Alto, California, where tensions escalated after he clashed with a middle-aged man.
The incident, which was captured and shared on social media, quickly gained attention for its unexpected turn and Mullen’s handling of the situation.
Mullen, wearing a DOGE shirt and a pro-Trump hat, attended the protest earlier this month, viewing it as the perfect opportunity for his comedy routine.

He posted a video on YouTube showcasing his time at the event, offering commentary throughout to explain his thought process while trolling the protesters.
At first, the protesters largely reacted to Mullen’s presence with calmness, many of them understanding that the comedian was there to mock their cause.
However, things took a violent turn when Mullen encountered a middle-aged bearded man during an argument with other agitators.
The man approached Mullen and began mocking him, saying, “Sir, we have tiny d*cks, and that’s why we support this sh*t!”

He then slapped Mullen across the face, knocking his hat off and calling him a “little b**ch.”
Mullen briefly cuts away from the confrontation in the video to explain his martial arts background.
He noted that he was attempting to handle the situation “artfully” while deciding on the appropriate response. Initially, Mullen chose to slap the man back in self-defense, but this did not stop the agitator.
As the man continued to advance, the two began to grapple.
Mullen, maintaining control of the situation, quickly executed a clean takedown, using his jiu-jitsu training to subdue the protester.

“The hit, the ‘little b**ch, the grin, the grabbing me; it made me think he wants combat, and I better get him to the ground so I don’t get hit again,” Mullen explained in his commentary.
He continued, explaining the fundamentals of jiu-jitsu. “Jiu-jitsu is based on the idea that if your opponent is standing, he can put his full body into his strike and generate enough force to knock you out. But once you get him to the ground, it’s over,” Mullen added.
The bearded protester, unwilling to give up, bit Mullen in an attempt to break free.
However, Mullen’s jiu-jitsu training allowed him to quickly counter with a triangle choke—a move where an attacker uses their legs to encircle the opponent’s neck and one arm.
This submission move restricts blood flow and effectively neutralizes the threat.
As the protester struggled, others at the scene attempted to intervene, yelling at Mullen to “get the f**k off” their comrade.
The bearded man, however, lied about the altercation, claiming, “I hit your hat, dude,” despite the earlier slap.
Mullen remained calm throughout, explaining in his commentary that his goal was never to harm the man but simply to subdue him temporarily.
“If you want to, you can extinguish someone’s life with a triangle. But for a situation like this, you put the guy on timeout,” Mullen said.
The tension continued to rise as more protesters tried to free their comrade from Mullen’s grasp, but the comedian maintained control.
After a few moments, Mullen released the man, saying, “I’m not going to hurt him.”
In his commentary, Mullen emphasized that his objective was “catch and release” from the beginning, and he was determined to avoid causing lasting harm.
The altercation, which has since gained widespread attention on social media, serves as a reminder of how quickly protests can escalate.
Despite the heated exchange, Mullen’s restraint and experience in martial arts allowed him to handle the situation without significant injury, all while maintaining control of the narrative.
His video remains a striking example of the unpredictable nature of protest encounters and the unexpected roles humorists can sometimes play in them.
