Democratic Representative Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) has drawn significant criticism following remarks she made about Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s disability during a speech at the Human Rights Council earlier this week.
Crockett referred to Abbott, who is confined to a wheelchair, as “Governor Hot Wheels,” a comment that many have labeled as disrespectful and offensive.
In her speech, Crockett addressed the crowd, saying, “Y’all know we got Governor Hot Wheels down there – come on now! And the only thing hot about him is that he is a hot a** mess, honey.”
I don’t use this word often, but Jasmine Crockett truly is wicked.
To call Greg Abbott “Governor Hot Wheels” is cruel, contemptible & speaks to your lack of character.

The remarks immediately sparked backlash, particularly from co-hosts of The View, a talk show known for its political discussions.

Co-host Sunny Hostin was one of the first to respond, stating that Crockett’s comments were “not a good idea” and that “you just don’t mock people with disabilities.”
Hostin also expressed her belief that Crockett had made a mistake and needed to take responsibility for it.
“I admire Jasmine Crockett. I do think she’s an effective messenger. I think this was a mistake. I think when you make a mistake, you have to own it. You have to do that because it gives you a lot more credibility when you do that,” Hostin remarked.
Dang, even The View hosts are slamming Jasmine Crockett for her comment about Greg Abbot!

Hostin continued by saying that while the effort to censure Crockett was “not appropriate,” an apology was warranted.
Co-host Sara Haines echoed similar sentiments, acknowledging Crockett’s effectiveness and talent but emphasizing that the comment was “beneath her.”
Alyssa Farah, another co-host of The View, also voiced her disapproval.
While she stated that she respected Crockett, Farah noted that mocking a disability is never acceptable, regardless of the person’s political affiliation.
“It’s never okay to mock a disability, whether Donald Trump or Jasmine Crockett,” Farah said.
Instead of offering an apology, Crockett pushed back against the backlash.
She claimed that her comment was not an attack on Abbott’s disability but rather a critique of his policies.
This response was met with further criticism, as many felt that Crockett was attempting to deflect responsibility for her words rather than owning up to her mistake.
In response to Crockett’s remarks, Rep. Randy Weber (R-TX) introduced a resolution on Wednesday to censure the congresswoman.
Jasmine…words have meanings & actions have consequences.
I look forward to introducing my resolution to censure you for your words and actions. https://t.co/KKbxPgUUMA

While the censure motion is unlikely to lead to any significant action, it serves as a formal condemnation of Crockett’s comment and a call for accountability.
Critics have argued that Crockett’s remarks were part of a pattern of behavior designed to draw attention and generate media coverage.
Some believe that her comments, which many perceive as outrageous, are intentional attempts to gain the spotlight.
“Her whole shtick is saying ridiculous things to get attention and clicks,” one critic said on social media.
“She has no substance, which means she has to resort to making incendiary comments.”
For many on the right, the best way to respond to figures like Crockett is to not take them seriously.
If Crockett is not engaging in serious political discourse and is instead making inflammatory statements to garner attention, some argue that she should not be treated as a serious political figure.
The controversy over Crockett’s remarks comes as the political climate remains highly charged, with tensions rising over issues of political discourse and public behavior.
While some believe that Crockett should face consequences for mocking a disability, others see this as another example of how political figures are using provocative rhetoric to dominate headlines.
