Walmart heiress takes out full page political ad in NY Times urging Americans to show up at townhalls

A supposedly “nonpartisan message” from a billionaire heiress purporting to speak for “WE” the people of the United States was readily called out as opposition to the Trump administration.

While ordinary leftists would gladly pick up a microphone or megaphone to peddle propaganda and activists for hire to cause disruptions, the other half favored other means. Such was the case Sunday when John Walton’s widow, 76-year-old Christy Walton, took at a full-page ad in The New York Times and other newspapers across the country Sunday calling on the public to speak up with their rallying cry, “our country is not for sale.”

Depicting the Statue of Liberty at sunset under the banner “USA, USA, USA,” the billionaire heiress of Walmart founder Sam Walton’s fortune, included eight declarations that read, “WE are a people of principle and honor. WE honor our commitments and stand by our allies. WE defend against aggression by dictators. WE uphold and defend the Constitution. WE care for veterans and children. WE respect our neighbors and trading partners. WE support a healthy national and international economy, community, and environment. WE are the world leader trusted to uphold the stability of rule of law.”

Before included an email address and crediting the views as “solely those of Christy Walton,” the ad asserted, “We are the people of the United States of America. The honor, dignity, and integrity of our country is not for sale. Show up, attend your town halls, be civil.”

Bloomberg credited a “person familiar with Walton’s thinking” for suggesting “it was meant as a nonpartisan message encouraging people to make their voices heard and actively participate in government.”

However, with a background that included donations to the Center for American Progress, the Lincoln Project and a group supporting Senate Democrats, in addition to co-hosting a fundraiser for then-Vice President Kamala Harris in Jackson Hole, Wyoming in September after joining in calling on then-President Joe Biden to drop out of the race, there was little question as to where the billionaire’s allegiances aligned.

Notably, the prevailing issues around Trump’s handling of foreign policy negotiations, in particular the use of tariffs, as well as his efforts at peace between Russia and Ukraine stood out amid the statements about commitments to allies and respect for “our neighbors and trading partners.”

Despite the suggestion of lofty ideals that leftists glommed onto, many called out the potential impact that tariffs could have on the bottom line for businesses like Walmart that rely on the sale of imported goods as the April 2 deadline approached for the Trump administration to impose further tariffs on America’s trading partners in a reciprocal style as a means to put an end to the U.S. being “ripped off and abused by every nation in the World, both friend and foe.”
