Angela Rayner’s housing department has been forced to reveal in a parliamentary question posed by Kevin Hollinrake that it is engaging “a small number of interns” and a “small number of contractors” at below the London Living Wage rate of £13.85. It was only a few years ago in 2019 that Rayner joined striking civil servants in a protest over the government’s failure to pay the London Living Wage:
“Out on the picket line this morning showing my support for Public and Commercial Services trade union members who provide services to the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy. The government have awarded contracts which don’t pay the London living wage, shameful stuff, what a fantastic group of workers, pay them what they deserve!”
