The Environmental Protection Agency’s budget just got a whole lot slimmer, according to Administrator Lee Zeldin.
On Tuesday, Zeldin detailed the $20 billion grants being cut, and why he decided to pull the plug on this money. He also accused the previous administration’s EPA of engaging in acts that he calls a “deliberate effort to limit government oversight.”
Watch:
Update: @EPA just notified 8 recipients of $20 BILLION in Biden EPA “gold bars” that their grants have been TERMINATED!
It is my commitment to President Trump, Congress, and you, that EPA will be an exceptional steward of your tax dollars. I’ll have it no other way! pic.twitter.com/PjJ5WOlaY1

“Over the past few weeks, it has been a high priority of mine to identify and bring to light countless issues regarding a Biden EPA ‘gold bar’ scheme,” Zeldin began the video. “$20 billion of your tax dollars were parked in an outside financial institution in a deliberate effort to limit government oversight. Doling out your money through just a pass-through, politically connected, unqualified, and in some cases brand-new NGOs. The money has since been frozen and the Department of Justice and FBI have been investigating.”
“You may have heard how a group linked to Stacey Abrams received $2 billion, after reporting a mere $100 in total revenue the year before. Or how the founding director of the EPA’s program dished out $5 billion to his former employer after shaping the legislation that created the program from his White House post. These two examples have only been the tip of the iceberg. I’m here to report back to the American people that as of today, I have officially terminated these grant agreements entirely. Not only does EPA have full authority to take this action, but frankly, we were left with no other option,” he continued.
“This termination is based on substantial concerns regarding program integrity, objections to the award process, programmatic fraud, waste and abuse, and misalignment with the agency’s priorities,” the administrator added. “The only way we can reduce waste, increase oversight and meet the intent of the law as it was written is by terminating these grants. It is my unwavering commitment to President Trump, Congress and to you, the EPA will once again be an exceptional steward of your tax dollars. I will have it no other way.”
The program Zeldin referred to was established by the 2022 Inflation Reduction Act, and was previously known as the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund.
“Two initiatives, worth $14 billion and $6 billion, respectively, aimed to offer grants to nonprofits, community development banks and other groups for projects focusing on disadvantaged communities,” Fox News reported. “The eight nonprofits that were awarded the money included the Coalition for Green Capital, Climate United Fund, Power Forward Communities, Opportunity Finance Network, Inclusiv and the Justice Climate Fund. These organizations have partnered with various groups, including Rewiring America, Habitat for Humanity and the Community Preservation Corporation.”
X users celebrated the cuts:
Thank you for saving us $20 billion dollars and actually caring about the money of taxpayers.
I feel like ZERO government officials have cared at ALL about being good stewards of the money we give them.
Seriously, thank you for this.
