Trump keeps promise, cuts funding to Maine universities over smug mayor’s refusal to comply with transgender sports policy

Federal funding to Maine’s public colleges has been temporarily paused over the state’s refusal to comply with President Donald Trump’s transgender sports ban.

Specifically, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has paused $56.1 million in active grants for the University of Maine System (UMS), which is comprised of eight public colleges.

Top USDA official Chelsea D. Cole sent an email to her underlings on Monday requesting that they “temporarily no longer issue any payments or authorize any other releases of funding to Columbia University or the University of Maine System,” according to USA Today.

The freeze comes after Maine Gov. Janet T. Mills told Trump during a roundtable discussion late last month that she would not be following his executive order barring so-called “transgender” students from competing against players of the opposite biological sex:

In response, the Trump administration began opening up investigations against Maine.

“The U.S. Department of Education opened inquiries into the Maine Department of Education and the student’s school district, alleging they had violated federal civil rights law,” according to ProPublica.

“The same day, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services targeted the Maine Education Department, too, as well as the state’s university system,” the reporting continues.

The Department of Agriculture eventually launched its own investigation and froze the school’s grants, claiming in a letter to Mills and UMS Chancellor Dannel Malloy that the school was clearly violating Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972.

Yet, in a statement to the Portland Press Herald, Malloy acted shocked by the investigation.

“It’s disappointing,” he said. “The letter that we got didn’t give a reason. They’re looking into things. We’ve complied. We’ve answered questions.”

But no, Maine has NOT complied.

Here’s the proof:

Malloy went on to act as if the investigations are all the result of Mills having offended Trump during last month’s roundtable discussion.

“We’re going to hurt kids because somebody didn’t like what somebody else said,” he said. “Doesn’t make a whole lot of sense.”

And the reason it doesn’t make sense is that it’s a fake narrative, and the real reason for the slew of investigations is the state’s blatant refusal to stop biological boys from invading girls’ sports.

All this comes after Maine state Rep. Laurel Libby, a Republican, was censured by the state’s House for raising concerns on social media about a biological male who competed in and won a state pole vault competition for girls at Greely High School in Cumberland.

She responded by filing a lawsuit against Maine House Speaker Ryan Fecteau, demanding that her voting and speaking rights be restored.

Students have also involved themselves in this battle. During a “March Against Mills” protest outside the Maine House this Saturday, several female student athletes spoke out against the state’s refusal to ban transgender sports.

Students have also been speaking out at school board hearings.

Case in point:

Left-wingers, meanwhile, held their own protest against Libby, but as seen below, barely anybody attended it.
