Gunfire, Chaos, and Tesla Under Siege—Hawley Calls for Investigation [WATCH]

Sen. Josh Hawley, R-Mo., is calling for a deeper investigation into left-wing “dark money” operations following a wave of violent protests against Elon Musk and Tesla, which have escalated in recent weeks.

Speaking on Jesse Watters Primetime on Monday, Hawley said it was time to “blow the lid off” how these protests are being funded.

Josh Hawley thanks supporters as he delivers victory speech at a watch party in Ozark, Mo. after he won a second term for U.S. Senate on Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2024.

“Well, it ought to be serious, particularly if you follow the money, as you were just pointing out, Jesse. It’s time to blow the lid off the dark money operation of the left. They’ve been doing this for years,” Hawley said.

Hawley’s comments come amid reports of vandalism, property damage, and violent demonstrations targeting Tesla facilities.

According to The Washington Post, protesters opposed to Musk’s involvement in the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) under President Donald Trump have been responsible for more than a dozen destructive acts against Tesla since Inauguration Day.

On Thursday, a Tesla dealership near Portland, Oregon, was hit with gunfire, damaging multiple vehicles and shattering windshields, Fox News reported.

The violence continued on Saturday, when activists gathered in several cities as part of a coordinated demonstration called “Tesla Takedown,” aiming to disrupt the company’s operations.

Watters pressed Hawley on the issue, asking how seriously lawmakers were treating what appeared to be “domestic terrorist attacks” against Tesla and Musk.

Hawley pointed to broader patterns of left-wing protests, including campus demonstrations, attacks on Supreme Court justices’ homes, and pro-Palestinian rallies that have turned violent.

“They’ve been funding all kinds, whether we’re talking about terrorism on campuses, the pro-Hamas terrorists, whether we’re talking about these attacks on Tesla, whether we’re talking about what’s happened at people’s homes, the justices’ homes of the Supreme Court, for instance. All of that is astroturf, left-funded garbage. We ought to find out where all of it is coming from,” Hawley said.

Since 2020, left-wing protests have increasingly turned destructive, with demonstrators causing damage to businesses, government buildings, and universities.

Some pro-Palestinian activists have engaged in similar behavior, with certain groups linked to past violent demonstrations.

One key platform in Democratic fundraising efforts, ActBlue, has processed donations for multiple pro-Palestinian organizations, including some that have praised Hamas’ attacks.

Hawley suggested that similar funding sources could be fueling the ongoing Tesla protests.

“But Jesse, I’ll also just say this,” Hawley added. “The left have really gotten to be a bunch of weirdos. Just a year ago, they were all driving EVs and touting their moral virtue for doing so, and now they’re burning down the dealerships, disrupting the State of the Union.”

“These people are weird, and that’s why the American people will not give them power,” he said.

Democrats have long pushed for the expansion of electric vehicles, with the Biden-Harris administration setting a goal for EVs to make up 50% of all new car sales by 2030.

However, many on the left have turned against Musk following his alignment with Trump and his role in government efficiency reforms under DOGE.

With protests escalating and investigations into funding sources underway, the political battle over Tesla and Musk’s role in Trump’s administration is expected to continue.
