Lawyer Probing Reform Row Slaps Down Rupert Lowe’s Claims

The weekend saw the first big bust-up in Reform after Rupert Lowe MP had the whip withdrawn following allegations of bullying two female staff, and accusations of making violent threats toward party chairman Zia Yusuf. The party reported Lowe to the police the day after Lowe’s punchy intervention on Farage landed in the Mail…

Lowe has since been furiously posting on X about the “betrayal” from Reform colleagues, and has denied all wrong doing. He swiftly issued a statement on Friday afternoon to say that the senior lawyer who was appointed by Reform to investigate the allegations was ‘dismayed’ at Reform’s statement:

“I have just spoken to the KC. She is dismayed that this statement has been made, and reiterated that no evidence against me has been sent to her. She stated that this has been issued before the investigation has even started. She is shocked at the process, shocked at the communication from the party, and shocked that no credible evidence has been given, despite her repeated requests.”

Now the KC in question, who cannot be named but has been verified by the BBC, has come out firmly denying Lowe’s comments:

“I have seen a number of statements made by Mr Lowe MP which are attributed to me and which describe my reactions to the process conducted by the party into the allegations made against both Mr Lowe MP and his constituency manager. I find myself in the unfortunate and regrettable position of having to make this statement to correct the record. I have not expressed either ‘dismay’ or ‘shock’ at any time as to the process. Nor have I said ‘there is zero credible evidence against [Mr Lowe]’, let alone said this ‘repeatedly’.”

Oh…

Lowe reiterated that he’s asked the KC and Reform for “credible evidence against” him but that “none has been provided. It still hasn’t.” He then went on to say he’s seeking legal action to “stand up to bully” Farage and that he won’t have his name “dragged through the mud“. Messy times for Reform…
