Former Liverpool Mayor Joe Anderson has been charged with bribery and misconduct in relation to council contracts, Merseyside Police announced today. These charges stem from a police investigation into the awarding of commercial and business contracts by Liverpool City Council between 2010 and 2020. In total, 12 individuals have been charged with 12 offences related to bribery and misconduct in public office, including City politician Derek Hatton, former Liverpool City Council director Nicholas Kavanagh, and a former Assistant Director at the council. Robin Weyell, Deputy Chief Crown Prosecutor, confirmed that criminal proceedings are now underway, with all 12 individuals due to appear at Preston Magistrates’ Court on 28 March.
