Wait until he sees how much the IRS takes out … And state taxes at that …
From California, an 11-year-old collector ended up finding a one-of-a-kind Paul Skenes rookie card earlier in 2025 following an announcement from the Pittsburgh Pirates that they would give whoever found it a meet and greet with Skenes, multiple autographed jerseys and season tickets.
LSU gymnast Livvy Dunne, the girlfriend of Skenes, also put a seat in her suite on the table for the finder of the card to experience during a game. (RELATED: Foul Ball Out In Tokyo Series Stolen By … Rodney Peete?)
Well, the kid decided to pass on all of those offers and put the card up for auction, and that was a grade-A move on his part because the card sold for $1,110,000.
From Topps, the Skenes Rookie Debut Patch card was up for auction for two weeks, ultimately closing Friday morning. The official sale of the card was through Fanatics Collect.

This will definitely be an early learning experience for this kid when it comes to taxes.
With the IRS and California state government being the scumbags they are, this kid will only see about $500,000-$600,000 of that money. And yeah, that’s nothing to sneeze at, but in the grand scheme of things, that kind of cash ain’t ish at the end of the day. Hell, a nice house and a nice car, and boom, you’re broke again.
And this is why wealth is critical — invest that money, young man, and make even more.
